AN ISLAND OF REALITY IN AN OCREAN OF DIHARREA
Hasten thee to me, brothers and sisters, for one of us is in crisis. Nay, for once it is not I, but instead one of our founding members.
Sister Dabich, our soon-to-be apostle, hath confessed that she doth still possess that cancerous growth upon human evolution known as "faith," and that it is furthermore based on fear.
We at the Church of Scribe(patent pending)do subscribe to the phrase found in Frank Herbert's Dune novels: "Fear is the mind-killer." Is is through experience, direct observation and logical speculation that we as a species shall grow, not fear of the things that cannot be known.
And what be this FEAR that doth consume our beloved sister? What hideous affliction doth literally scare the purple piss out of her?
'Tis the standard fear of human beings everywhere!!! The FEAR of Oblivion. Rather than embracing what is most certainly the purest form of existence, the human mind refuses to accept that "all of this" doesn't add up to something once our phycial bodies hath ceased to be.
Poor, beleagured Sister Dabich FEARS that our lives have no meaning. She refuseth to accept that not continuing on following physical death is possible. Indeed she doth grow angered and combative at the mere mention of this possibility.
And perhaps she is right to do it. We are, after all, an ego-centric species. Divesting oneself of this constant grasping for "self" and "meaning" in a spiritually logical context seems to be our lot in life.
We sadly admit that we can offer naught but more questions to the debate. Scribeism is neither a religion of Absolutism nor is it a comfy-cozy refuge for those with warm trickles running down their legs at the thought of no happy endings for the human race.
But perhaps we can offer something to Sister Dabich and all those others who cannot reconcile themselves to what they perceive to be negative and meaningless. The Church of Scribe isn't into providing 'hope," since we view it as a silly concept meant to create false and harmful ideals. However, perspective is something we embrace whole-heartedley. Perhaps the following passage from the great literary writer John Updike can provide a bit:

WHAT
EVER
Insignificance is but a temporary relief for those upset at specifics. As is the freedom found in futility. Accepting oblivion is often easier that dealing with the unknown. The self respect found in percieved inner strength, like the feeling 'religious' people get from following their books to the word, can also be found in accepting the unknown. I am new to your brethren, but if I may offer some advice... I believe Strength is found in the very desire of it. Minister?
Anon Dude....wateva...just get a life.
It doth do mine heart good to see the message being received by new folk.
thomp,
thou art indeed correct. the entire realm of human experience can be summed up by perceived need versus actual need. however, in order to dumb it down for the masses, we must discuss things in terms of what can be acquired for the benfit of the individual, despite the possibility that individuation is in itself a delusion.
thank thee for keeping me honest my new apostle. :)
constant,
never mind, child, just sit back and loosen thy top-thou doth look uncomfortable.

nothing makes mine heart soar faster than a compliment from a hot chick. :)
